The Academic Year program is for students in their junior and senior year (with at least 3 semesters before graduation). Once accepted into the program, students remain McNair Scholars, and continue to receive program support until graduation.
Each year up to twenty outstanding juniors and seniors from New Jersey Institute of Technology who meet all eligibility criteria, and are seriously interested in pursuing study leading to the Ph.D, are enrolled. Program activities begin each September and continue throughout the academic year, with a series of workshops and seminars designed to help scholars identify appropriate graduate programs, gain admission to them, and secure financial support. Participants are provided with tutorial support in challenging classes. These sessions can be either group or on-on-one and are designed to assist the scholar in excelling academically. During the academic year, each scholar completes a research project under the guidance of a faculty mentor.
Other program support includes:
Preparation for high-level research and presentation skills
Valuable research experience while working closely with a faculty mentor
Help with critical factors when selecting a graduate school
Fee waiver and graduate fellowships at supporting institutions
Travel monies to visit graduate programs or to present research and attend professional conferences.
Opportunity to present research at local or national conferences
Assistance with resume writing and interviewing skills
Assistance with locating internships and summer research opportunities at NJIT and other institutions.
